  CONTENTS INSURANCE

Contents insurance policies tend to be very comprehensive, so they will cover more or less everything that you own including:

Furniture, furnishing, general household goods like electrical equipment, clothing, personal   effects and so on. Certain policies will even cover your frozen food in the event that the freezer defrosts everything!

Home contents insurance is intended to protect you against the loss or damage to your belongings whilst they are in your home.  This may be though a result of theft, fire or flooding.

Always check the stipulations that your home contents insurance will cover your possessions.  Risks often also include:

Storms

Subsidence

Water escaping from tanks and pipes

Rare events like explosions, earthquakes and impact from aircraft.

If you live an area where your house is particularly prone to a specific type of damage, i.e. flooding, given that you live near a river, then please ensure that your home contents insurance provides protection against such an event, otherwise you will not be able to make any claims on the damage brought about.

It is more expensive but look for a home contents policy which provides protection against accidental damage caused by you.

Inevitably, all items are prone to accidental damage no matter how careful you may be.  Electrical equipment such as computers, televisions and audio equipment along with glassware tend to be most prone to accidental damage, while often being some of the most valuable possessions within your house.
